===Background=== | |||
In 1984, Thorn EMI formed a joint venture with HBO that was known as Thorn EMI/HBO Video. The U.S. unit of Thorn EMI Video was absorbed into the new partnership; Thorn EMI Video's non-American units were absorbed into Cannon Films in 1986 as a result of the latter's purchase of Thorn EMI's entertainment holdings (including Thorn EMI Screen Entertainment). Consequently, Cannon inherited Thorn EMI's stake in the venture, and it was soon renamed Video. | |||
